Mounu is a family run resort like no other. Located in one of the most beautiful areas of Tonga, it not the World! Its a 6 ½ acre coral atoll surrounded by pristine white sand and beautiful clean clear water. Mounu is set and designed as an Eco Resort, so we have minimal impact on the environment.

The main complex houses the restaurant and the Moby Dick bar, office, well stocked library and guest toilets.  Communications to the outside world are by radio telephone, VHF and we have wireless internet connection so you can work if you so desire.  Mounu utilizes solar power to supply 12, 24, 110 and 240volt.  We carry adapters so your camera/phone/video can be charged in the main building.  Rain water is collected at the main complex and double filtered for drinking.

 

Pathways through the bush connect you to the main complex.  We have a planting programme underway on the island with native kauris, cedar and mahogany being planted. 

  

Mounu in Tongan means ‘bait fish’.  Huge schools of sardines school in the shallow waters around the Island.  The Humpback Whales can be spotted from your fale and Uli the dog will let you know when they are around during the season!  Turtles nest on the Island during the summer months.

 

Temperature. Generally the resort, like all of Tonga, is warm and pleasant. July - November 23-25C. December - June .... 28-36C. Our wet season is usually from Jan - March.

 

Clothing. We recommend casual and travel light. If wanting to visit one of the Churches to hear the choir something smart.

 

Visas & Health. Check with your local country re visa requirements for Tonga. Airport tax of T$25 for all international departures, payable at airport.

 

Humpback Whales. Whales inhabit our waters from July - November, our winter months.

 

Crawlies. Insects and Bugs inhabit the island but none of these are  poisonious and we have coils to keep mozzies at bay.

 

AIRLINES:

INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS:  Air New Zealand, Polynesian Airlines, Pacific Blue and Air Pacific all fly into Nuku'alofa

 

There is a direct flight from Nadi in Fiji to Vava'u twice a week operated by Air Fiji/Airlines Tonga. 

 

Air Pacific have announced they will be flying Nadi to Vava'u direct commencing April 2008.

 

DOMESTIC FLIGHTS:  Airlines Tonga for Domestic flighs in Tonga.
