TONGA VAVAU
Tonga has 3 main island groups and the Vava'u group is situated

275km north of the capital Nuku’alofa, located on the main island of Tongatapu and it is approximately an hours flight. There is plenty to see here all year round but the peak season (when whales are often spotted) is late June – early November. Temperatures are moderate ranging between 18C and 25C during a Tongan winter. The hot season in Vava'u begins late November and temperatures range between 24C and 36C. Easterly trade winds blow 80% of the year at an average of 15 knots.
The majority of the Vava'u population of 14,000 is based on the main Island, in and around Neiafu harbour. Like everyone in Tonga the people are friendly and have a great relaxed attitude. The peoples of the outer islands live on sustenance fishing and farming.
Neiafu Harbour is the commercial hub of Vava'u accommodates 3 banks, hotels, backpackers, bars and numerous restaurants, pharmacy, local handicrafts and other amenities. The fresh fruit and produce market is a hive of activity on Saturday mornings.
There are 50 Islands in the group of Vavau with less than 10 being inhabited.
